Production Systems - Customized Solutions
The machines referred to as Production Systems, offer maximum productivity and are optimally matched to the needs of the user. The well-known modular component structure used by ELB, permits customized tailoring of the machine for maximum cost effectiveness. Production Systems from ELB have been proven worldwide in countless applications and demanding manufacturing conditions.
In general, these systems are produced as travelling column machines. A cross-slide whose design and travel distance has been optimized for the relevant grinding application travels on the rear machine base . On this cross-slide, columns of diverse power ranges can be laid out according to the single or double spindle concept. The front machine base can also be configured in various ways. Both linear and rotary axes with the corresponding tables and fixtures can be installed.
A classic version is the Compact-Master for grinding of symmetrical profiles. Two grinding wheels are set up one above the other. Each one of them can be dressed by a separate wheel head mounted diamond roll dressing unit which is individually controlled to secure an optimum process. The workpiece is clamped on the stationary machine table and the infeeding grinding wheels travel over the workpiece using the X axis. A typical application for this type of machine configuration is grinding of fir-tree profiles on turbine blades or of linear guideways.
In order to achieve highest productivity, many machines of this series are equipped with a fast rotary indexer. At least two workpiece clamping devices, separated by splash guards, are mounted on the indexer which allows loading and unloading during grinding operations. A further example of Production Systems from ELB is the IPC. Internal profiles can be ground with extreme precision with this type of machine.
The workpiece is clamped in an indexer and positioned according to the number of profiles to be ground. After positioning the grinding arm with its small diameter profiled wheel enters the workpiece for grinding. A typical application for this machine is grinding the internal profiles of stator housings for hydraulic pumps and motors.
