Microgranite Machine Bases
ELB grinding machines are available in many sizes and variations. The specific configuration depends on the workpiece and the grinding requirements and can be optimized to meet the needs of our customers.
In every ELB Machine, the infeed axis (Y-axis) is equipped with pre-loaded linear guideways.

For more than 25 years, ELB-Schliff has been producing all machine bases for standard machines from Microgranite. Microgranite is a polymer concrete, cast as a mixture of reactive resin and various grades of stone. Microgranite has forged a firm place in precision machine construction. Microgranite is characterized by
|
Excellent damping
The damping characteristic of a material is measured by the vibration decay process. Vibrations in Microgranite are damped far more quickly as compared to cast iron (see the diagram).
Optimum static and dynamic rigidity
The low specific weight of 2,4kg/dm3 means that it is possible to enlarge wall thicknesses by 3 to 4 times as compared to cast iron maintaining similar weight.
High thermal stability
The low thermal conductivity of Microgranite means that machines with bases made of this material have a very slow-acting thermal behavior. This leads to minimized thermal motion of the machine resulting in better dimensional stability. Among other benifits, this property aids in machine stability when the production process is interrupted for short time periods.

Other advantages are high resistance against media of all types (“rust-free”) and good modelling ability thanks to the “cold” and “low tension” casting process. The faces of the guideways are either formed directly into the machine base or alternatively the supporting surfaces of the machine base are equipped with threaded dowels to which the linear guideways are attached later.
The advantageous properties of Microgranite guarantee the highest degree of precision even under toughest conditions.
